Ensure Accurate Thermocouple Calibration

Ensuring accurate thermocouple calibration means comparing the sensor against a NIST-traceable reference standard at multiple temperature points across its working range, not checking a single point in isolation. The process for each thermocouple includes:

  1. Receive and inspect — the thermocouple is logged and inspected for physical damage, wire degradation, or contamination before any testing begins.
  2. As-found measurement — the thermocouple is tested against a reference standard using a comparison bath, furnace, or dry-block calibrator at multiple temperature points, and pre-calibration readings are recorded.
  3. Adjustment where applicable — because thermocouple drift is generally a property of the sensor itself rather than an adjustable setting, adjustment applies primarily to associated transmitters or readout devices rather than the thermocouple element.
  4. As-left measurement — final readings are recorded and compared against the as-found data to document the sensor’s drift and current performance.
  5. Documentation — a calibration certificate is issued documenting the reference standards used, environmental conditions, and as-found/as-left measurement results.
  6. Return — the calibrated thermocouple is returned with its certificate.

In-Lab Calibration
Ship your thermocouples to one of our ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited facilities, where they are tested under controlled environmental conditions against reference-grade comparison baths, furnaces, or dry-block calibrators. In-lab service is well suited to spare or removable thermocouples that can be safely transported.

On-Site Calibration
Our technicians travel directly to your facility, which is especially useful for thermocouples installed in process equipment, thermowells, or fixed instrumentation that is impractical to remove. On-site service reduces process downtime and keeps installed sensors in place throughout the calibration process. On-site visits can also cover related temperature controller calibration and thermodynamic and chemical calibration needs in the same visit.
